So just what IS a Sighthound Collar?
Sighthounds are always seen wearing very wide collars in paintings and pictures. The first Sighthound collars were often made of metal or leather to protect their necks while hunting. Modern Sighthound Collars are made using a variety of materials and are more decorative in nature, but still serve an important purpose - which is to protect your hound from getting loose!
Sighthound Collars are another name for Martingale Collars. Often times, martingale collars are called Sighthound Collars because people are so often used to seeing martingale collars on Sighthounds such as Greyhounds, Whippets, Afghan Hounds, Borzoi, etc.
Sighthounds have heads that are actually smaller than their necks and need a collar that will tighten if they try to slip out.
